Suffering from acid reflux? You probably have a pretty good idea of what not to eat or drink. Spicy foods, deep fried anything, tomato sauce, and soda are big “no-no’s” when it comes to having acid reflux. However, having acid reflux doesn’t mean you have to miss out on savoring tasty foods, and here’s is a good place to start:
Bananas
Bananas are considered an alkaline fruit and have a high pH balance of between 4.5-5.2. Due to their high alkalinity, bananas do a great job of neutralizing stomach acids and are great at relieving symptoms of acid reflux.
Rice
Who doesn’t love a good rice dish with their meal? As rice is a complex carbohydrate and is very easy on the stomach. The possibilities are endless when using rice, whether it’s used as a side dish or incorporated into the main course!
Green Vegetables
Green beans, broccoli, kale, and asparagus are some of the many green veggies that help combat painful acid reflux symptoms. Eating these vegetables serves a dual purpose, they relieve acid reflux, and you’re guaranteed to get tons of essential vitamins.
Ginger
Ginger has been used as a natural stomach ache aid for years. It has amazing anti-inflammatory properties, ginger also helps calm a nasty bout of acid reflux. Making a tea with fresh ginger root and hot water is a great acid reflux remedy. Ginger ale should be avoided, the carbonated water and sugars could irritate existing acid reflux.
Poultry
Poultry, such as chicken and turkey, is a great choice for a meal’s main course and it’s also super easy on the stomach. Poultry should be lean, with its skin removed. Frying should be avoided but grilled, broiled, or baked poultry is fine to eat if you have acid reflux.
Bread
Whole-grain bread is made with unprocessed grains, whereas other “healthy” sounding types of bread (wheat, whole-wheat, 7-grain) are usually made with refined grains that are stripped of natural fiber, vitamins, and other nutrients.
This is an abbreviated list of foods. It’s important to note when it comes to finding foods that help fight acid reflux, look for foods that have little to no acid content.
