Education’s Value

According to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a high school diploma is no longer enough to build a successful future. Jobs that require high levels of education and skill pay higher wages than jobs that require few skills and little education.

Education is a fundamental part of intellectual freedom, and its main value is to improve how you view, participate and exist in the world. Education is a social event for most people. It encourages the sharing of ideas and experiences that help you become a better member of the community and society.

Education helps encourage you to seek out information and educate yourself. It provides the opportunity to learn about many different things, including literature, history, math, art, and sports, to discover your interests.

Education provides the basic building blocks needed to succeed in life, and comes in many forms, including  post-secondary education ( usually at a college or university which may grant an academic degree) and trade apprenticeships (a person who works for another in order to learn a trade). It gives you the ability to improve your socioeconomic standing by providing the tools and skills necessary to get better jobs which let you lead a better quality of life.

Statistics from the BLS validate this viewpoint by revealing that the unemployment rate among people who have a professional degree is significantly lower than that of people who have a high school diploma or less than a complete high school education. In addition, earnings increase significantly as a worker’s degree of education rises.
